St.Albert Jiu-Jitsu Dojo is moving!

It's happening! We are moving in a much better location that is close to being central in St.Albert. We are now located at 8610 Mckenney Avenue, where the St.Albert Food Bank used to be in the Mission Ridge Shopping Centre. We are opening at this location July 6th. We will have brand new judo mats, and eventually wall padding as well as a half cage. We plan on having "Wrestling for MMA" classes, MMA conditioning classes and eventually Kickboxing. This is a dojo you will want to train at!

The SERIES Part 2 Saturday, May 16, 2009 Arashi Do North - Grappling Tournament

Well, we only had a couple of our students that could attend at this tournament, but they did very well considering it was their first tournament, and only had been training one month (Konstantin Krigonov), and 2 months (Zach Pye). Konstantin fought a good match, and learned a few things, while fighting more experienced grapplers. Zach Pye lost his first match, and submitted his opponent with an armbar in his second match to place third. Congrats guys!

Yellow Belt Grading - April 27th, 2009

On April 27th, 2009, we put Dave Owens through a rigorous test for his yellow belt and he passes with flying colors!

Congrats Dave, well deserved!

Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Seminar with Renato Tavares of American Top Team

At the end of April, I had the chance to attend a seminar taught by Renato Tavares of American Top Team. Great seminar, Renato taught gi and no-gi submissions techniques. Everybody had a good time!

Capital City Championship at the Edmonton Aviation Museum - April 4th, 2009

Well, 4 of our students entered the Jiu-Jitsu grappling divisions yesterday, and did really well for themselves. It was all their first attempt at a grappling tournament, so congratulations to all of them!

Dave Owens (white belt) placed second in the novice (165lbs), he actually tied for first place, but due to him being heavier at the end of the division, ended up getting second place.

Darren Makeiff (green belt), as well placed second in the 185lbs novice division ( 1 wins (due to guillotine choke), 1 loss (due to choke) and 2 draw). Scott Ognoski (yellow belt) placed 3rd in the 170lbs. He lost 2 of his matches due to choke, got to hate those guys with long limbs, and submitted two opponents with armbars.

Calvert Lum (green belt) placed 4th. He had 2 draws due to resilient opponents who just wouldn't tapped, suffered one loss due to submission with Americana armbar, and one win through armbar submission.

All in all, great showing for St.Albert Jiu-Jitsu dojo! Congrats guys!
