Welcome To The St.Albert Jiu-Jitsu Dojo
What was formerly known as the Edmonton Canadian Jiu-Jitsu Dojo is now the St-Albert Jiu-Jitsu Dojo. We just moved to 8610 Mckenney Avenue in the Mission Shopping Centre, where the old St.Albert Food Bank used to be. Classes will start on July 6th, 2009.
There are about 500 different techniques taught from white to black belt and many thousand variations can be derived from these basic techniques. The style is Ninja-Ryu Jiu-Jitsu, and is sanctioned by the Trident Jiu-Jitsu Fellowship based out of Ottawa, Canada. We are always adding new techniques learned to the curriculum, ie: wrestling, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Muay Thai, Sambo, etc...
Benefits
A student of Ninja-Ryu Jiu-Jitsu will learn the following techniques: the strikes, blocks, and kicks of karate; the strangulation, immobilization, armbars and throwing of Judo, as well as grappling; joint locks and basic throws of aikido, and also Kali (Philipino stick fighting).
Goals
A student of Ninja-Ryu Jiu-Jitsu will learn to use all of those techniques and combine them together to defend himself against a single of multiple attackers, armed or unarmed. It must be stressed that modern Jiu-Jitsu is not a contest of muscular skill and strength. The art relies excessively on balance, leverage and speed to affect the necessary movements, at which point , strength is applied. And because leverage is so important, Jiu-Jitsu tends to wipe out the differences in size, weight, height and reach between opponents, so evening the odds. Therefore, Jiu-Jitsu is equally accessible to men and women
