Biography

Living an active lifestyle has always been an important part of  Gelaine’s life. Her personal interests have included activities of all  kinds from team sports to individual challenges like distance running and triathlons. Continuing to hold exercise as a main interest in her life, in 2001, she obtained a Bachelor’s of Physical Education degree  from the University of Alberta. She also holds CSEP- Exercise  Physiologist and Registered Kinesiologist certifications.  Professionally, Gelaine has work experience as an Exercise Therapist  in a rehabilitation setting, and most recently for working as a  Functional Evaluator for a Third Party Independent Medical Assessment company.
 
When Gelaine was introduced to Pilates, she was intrigued to study and  learn such a unique method of body conditioning. Pilates not only  improved her strength and flexibility but introduced her to a  mind-body connection from the inside- out. She was impressed how the  combination of these exercises and the breath work could ease stress.  To this day, she is amazed at how Pilates transformed her overall  posture. Having such personal success, she realized she wanted to help  other participants, from fitness enthusiasts to those recovering from  injury benefit from this form of exercise.
 
Gelaine became a mat-work instructor in 2005 who is certified by the  Pilates Method Alliance. In addition to mat exercises, she also enjoys  using small props such as foamrollers, exercise balls, hand weights,  resistance bands, and fitness circles. In the fall of 2007, Gelaine  initiated her Pilates Equipment certification and apprenticeship which  has included work on the Reformer, Cadillac, Chair, and Barrel.  Gelaine enjoys teaching first-time Pilates students to teaching  classes that will challenge individuals  who have had years of practice. Gelaine has been teaching with Mobile Fitness since January 2009.
